CyanogenMod is building a flexible open-source browser for Android

Gello
Android ROM developer CyanogenMod is working on Gello, an open-source browser based on Google’s Chromium project that includes loads of customization options. Early demo videos show features from the current build that may or may not make it to the final version, including an offline reading mode, immersive and night modes, site-by-site settings for privacy and security and the ability to save downloads in a preferred location and name files before saving them. It’s worth noting that Gello won’t be released on Cyanogen OS, which runs on the popular OnePlus One phone; that’s a separate project handled by Cyanogen Inc. Instead, it…

Snapchat has changed how you view snaps or stories. Instead of pressing and holding, you only need to tap the screen. No more numb fingers when you’re checking out longer snaps! There is also a neat new ‘add nearby’ function that allows you to find local Snapchat users and add them to your friends list. Additionally, you can see friends on the list and get in touch when they’re nearby. Snapcodes are also getting a “serious upgrade.” You can now add a selfie to the center of the code so everyone knows it’s yours. Snapcode screenshots can be sent through…

Ask Siri if you can listen to Beats 1 and it’ll probably get the answer wrong

Screenshot 2015-07-01 16.41.33
Apple Music arrived yesterday and one of its biggest features is Beats 1, the global streaming music station. Don’t try asking Siri about that though. Apple’s personal assistant hasn’t got the memo. I’m in Ireland (using a UK iTunes account) and have been listening to Beats 1 with no problem. But if I ask Siri to play the station for me, it won’t comply. In fact, it tells me the service “isn’t available in [my] country.” The same thing happens for other colleagues in the UK and beyond, despite the obvious fact that they’ve already been listening to the station and Beats 1 is available…

Listen to Beats 1 on Android unofficially but don’t expect it to last long

Screenshot 2015-06-30 16.41.24
Apple Music went live yesterday and with it came the company’s 24-hour streaming radio station Beats 1. We dug it, but if you’re on Android, there’s a wait until Apple’s official app debuts. That doesn’t mean you can’t tune in though. As you might expect, there’s already at least one unofficial Beats 1 stream that will work on Android devices. It’s here and was hacked together from an unencrypted HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) source. With Apple working on its own Android solution and notoriously fast to slap down infringements, I wouldn’t expect this particular broadcast to last much longer. ➤ Unofficial Beats…
