OneRX helps you find where to get the lowest-priced prescription medication

onerx
While most insurance providers offer tools to help you calculate your prescription medication costs, the websites or apps are often poorly designed and difficult to use on the go. OneRX, a new app for iOS and Android that launched this month, wants to simplify the search by helping you compare prices according to location and offering any coupons to lower overall costs. You can use OneRX to search by location for prices without insurance or sign up for an account then input your data for cost estimates. When you sign up, you can manually type in your card information or…

PSA: Instagram has removed custom locations

Instagram larger images
If you’re a power-user of Instagram, you’ve probably taken advantage of its ability to write Custom Locations on your image. Whether it’s providing a clever joke about where you are or adding your social handles to direct followers to your Snapchat or Twitter, Custom Location has been an interesting way for users to add something special to their pictures. Well, not anymore. It seems that Instagram update 7.4.1 for iOS and Android, which was released on August 19, has done away with the ability to input Custom Locations on your Instagram photos. This may have something to do with one of…

Get rid of those calling minutes and stop paying so much for your phone plan

Hangouts iOS
Cellphone plans are expensive. If you look at your monthly phone payments — especially if you’re American — it’s likely to be one of your largest monthly expenditures. Why are we still paying so much for plans in 2015? I asked myself this when I moved from New Zealand, a place with incredibly expensive monthly plans, to the Netherlands where things are slightly cheaper. As I moved here and started looking at phone plans again, I decided it’s finally time to cut my spend on them. It’s not entirely easy to kill off your carrier’s thirst for your money, but…

TuneIn’s new Premium tier removes the ads and introduces sports and audiobook stations

iPhoneandiPad
TuneIn is going freemium. The Web radio service today announced a paid subscription that offers some notable benefits over the standard free tier. First up, you’ll gain access to 600 commercial-free music stations. Thats a small portion of TuneIn’s over 100,000 total stations, but should still be an ample selection for you to choose from. Because these are existing live stations, TuneIn had to find a way to provide a commercial free experience. What it did was something clever: TuneIn simply replaces the commercials with more music. Sports fans will be happy too: TuneIn is announcing support for Major League Baseball…

WhatsApp for Android lets you set custom notifications for your favorite contacts

WhatsApp Android
WhatsApp has updated its messaging app on Android with a bunch of useful new features today, giving users better control over notifications from individual contacts. The ability to toggle the read status of chats showed up in an earlier build last month, but it’s here for all users now. Long-press on a conversation in the Chats list to mark it as read or unread. Of course, this feature won’t affect the read status on messages within your conversation — it’s only there to make it easier to spot or ignore them. Open up a conversation and tap View Contact, and…

Uber testing Smart Routes to discount riders near some San Francisco streets

Uber_Drive_Blog_Header
In an effort to create an efficient stream of passengers for its fleet of drivers, Uber is testing a “Smart Routes” program along large thoroughfares in San Francisco to encourage potential riders in the area to gravitate towards high-traffic pick-up spots. The feature, which was first reported by TechCrunch, works much in the way that Lyft’s HotSpots do: Users drop a pin to the Smart Route and meet the driver on that street. In exchange, Uber will provide a $1 discount to the passenger’s fare. Uber confirmed the Smart Routes program in a statement: We have begun testing a new feature to…

Rizon photo app for iOS alerts you to the ‘Golden Hour’ of natural light

Rizon---04---Repeat-Reminders
You can be smack in the middle of the most beautiful place on earth, but if the light sucks, your images will disappoint you. It’s long been acknowledged that the best time to shoot outdoors is the ‘Golden Hour‘ —  the time frame shortly after sunrise or before sunset during which the light is softer and more mellow compared to when the sun is high in the sky. Not surprisingly, there’s now an app for that. Rizon, a new release, actually does those calculations for you. That’s convenient not only for hiking-boots-on-the-ground shots but planning ahead to shoot with the best…
